The Adolescence

Adolescence 11-12:
As we transition from childhood into adolescence I found this really interesting TED Talk on parenting. While it can apply to any age group, I thought it would work well here because this is the time when adolescents are trying to discover who they are. They are trying to find “happiness” and that is the key message of the TED Talk and the underlying issue the speaker is trying to resolve in people of all ages. What is it that makes adolescence so difficult? Is it the hormones? Is it the peer pressure? Is it society? The impending demands of being an adult? What do adolescents need in regard to parenting? Strict rules? Freedom to make mistakes? Unconditional love? There are so many opinions on so many of these issues, but what is the right answer? Is there a right answer? Does it depend on the child? Does it depend on the parent? Does it depend on the situation? With so many questions, how can we possibly know the answers? Watch this TED talk, and let me know what you think. Your preconceived ideas will direct the “research” part of your answer, but the message is applicable to all ages across all cultures, and most circumstances. I hope it brings you the answers you need.
